Lions sweep tennis double dual

May 7, 2003

— Lawrence High swept Shawnee Miege and Leavenworth High during a tennis double dual Tuesday.

"We played pretty well," LHS coach Dick Wedel said. "Especially pleasing was Doug Raney's performance at No. 1 singles. He executed all of the strategies we have worked on in the past week. He improved his approach shots, his first serve efficiency and the placement of his groundstrokes.

"Doug worked hard in his matches, showed very good concentration."

Raney was 2-0 at No. 1 singles for the Lions, and Tommy Johnson was 2-0 at No. 2 singles. Jeff Craig and Martin Vertacnik were 2-0 at No. 2 doubles, while Issac Severance and Noah Welch went 1-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Today the Lions will travel to the Topeka West Invitational.
