  • Natalie Gump, 77, who was injured Nov. 13 in a two-vehicle, head-on collision near Midland Junction, remained in critical condition Tuesday at University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan.

Injury accidents

  • Two people were injured about 2:20 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 35 near Wellsville when their southbound semitrailer went out of control. Jason T. Smith, 26, Halton, Texas, was driving the 2004 Kenworth when it entered the ditch, traveled 600 feet and struck a guardrail, then re-entered the highway and came to a stop, blocking both lanes. Smith and a passenger, Wanda E. Wright, 32, French Settlement, La., were taken by ambulance to Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. Their conditions were not available.
  • A 75-year-old Eudora woman received treatment for a possible broken arm after a rear-end collision Monday morning. An ambulance took Etta J. Pankey to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after the two-vehicle wreck. She was treated and released. The wreck happened at 6:53 a.m. Monday on West 23rd Street near Louisiana Street when Pankey’s westbound Ford Contour rear-ended a Dodge Ram that was stopped and waiting to turn left. The driver of the truck, Latisa M. White, 23, Lawrence, was not injured, according to a report.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • Police arrested a 26-year-old Lawrence woman Friday morning after she tried to push a cartful of items out of Wal-Mart, 3300 Iowa, according to a report. Her cart contained about $1,500 in merchandise, including a Christmas tree skirt, a gift bag, a space heater, 17 video games and 27 DVDs, according to a report.
