KU to give students free bowl tickets

Cash-strapped Kansas University students who want to go to Orlando, Fla., to watch KU’s football team play in the Dec. 22 Tangerine Bowl just got a big break — KU will give them free tickets.

The KU athletic department will give free tickets to KU students going to the bowl game, where KU will play North Carolina State, athletic director Lew Perkins anounced Wednesday.

<p>Students wanting the free ticket must register with a KU valid student ID at the KU athletic ticket office before 5 p.m. Dec. 15.</p>
<p>Registered students will be given a voucher that can be redeemed at the KU will-call window located at the Citrus Bowl stadium.</p>
<p>For fans thinking about a road trip to Florida, it’s a 1,280-mile trek from Lawrence to Orlando. That’s a 20-hour, 23-minute drive, according to mapquest.com.</p>
<p>Last year’s Tangerine Bowl drew just 21,689 fans to 65,438-seat Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium. Texas Tech defeated Clemson, 55-15, in that game.</p>
