BV North upends Lions, 6-5

Lawrence High loses in bottom of seventh

? Blue Valley North scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, handing Lawrence High a heartbreaking 6-5 baseball loss Saturday at Blue Valley West.

“They’re pretty down,” LHS coach David Petry said about the Lions, who fell to 8-2 overall.

LHS held a 5-2 lead heading into the final frame. Senior Aaron Madill (2-2) struck out the leadoff hitter before yielding three consecutive singles. After a deep sacrifice fly to left field scored one run, Madill plunked the next batter to re-load the bases.

The Mustangs then won on a two-out, two-run double.

“We’re still not getting some timely hits on offense,” Petry said. “We left three runners in scoring position the first two innings and didn’t get anything.”

Ryan Engle was 2-for-4 with a double for the Lions, Tommy Mangino was 2-for-2 with two walks and Carl Lisher was 2-for-4.

“We’re getting those guys on,” Petry said, “we’re just not getting them in.”

The Lions will play host to Shawnee Mission North at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ice Field.
