SM South pummels LHS soccer

? Playing its second game in two days, Lawrence High’s soccer team suffered a 5-0 setback Friday to Shawnee Mission South.

“We knew they’d be very good,” LHS coach Keith Nelson said. “They’re No. 8 in the state. We didn’t think we’d lose that bad. The reason the score was so high was, we made some mental errors that resulted in goals. But those are things we can work on in practice.”

Nelson cited Aly Barland, Monica Ruiz and Bess Chatman.

The Lions (0-2) will play host to SM East Monday at the Youth Sports Inc. fields. Game time has been moved up to 3:30 p.m. for the varsity and 5 p.m. for the JV game to accommodate the possibility of Kansas University playing in the championship game of the NCAA Tournament.
