Students can win scholarships at first home game

For the second consecutive year, the Kansas University Endowment Association will give away 25 scholarships worth $1,000 each to Kansas University students attending a KU football game.

Students will have the opportunity to be selected during the Sept. 14 game pitting KU against Southwest Missouri State University.

The 25 scholarships will be awarded to qualifying students who sit in seats preselected by Endowment Association officials or who are chosen numerically from those entering Memorial Stadium for the game.

To qualify, students must be enrolled at KU, have their student ID, be present at the game and wear a blue 2002 edition KU First T-shirt. No purchase is necessary.

KU First: Invest in Excellence is the third and largest fund-raising campaign for the university.

By wearing the KU First T-shirts, which are funded in part by Intrust Bank, students can attend the game for free. About 17,000 of the shirts will be distributed Monday through Friday to students on KU’s campuses in Lawrence, Kansas City, Overland Park and Wichita.

The scholarships were made possible by a $25,000 gift to the Endowment Association from longtime KU supporters Dick and Jeanne Tinberg. The Leawood couple also provided the funding for the scholarships awarded during a fall 2001 football game between KU and UCLA.
