Lion track team wins in Manhattan

? Lawrence High’s boys track and field team claimed six individual first-place finishes and won the Manhattan Invitational on Friday.

The Lions accumulated 15412 points, and Junction City was second in the nine-team meet with 94 points. Lawrence placed fourth in the eight-team girls meet with 74 points, behind Manhattan (164), Salina Central (93) and Junction City (77).

Winning for the LHS boys were Dylan McClain in the 1,600 (4:28.5) and the 3,200 (9:47.41), Kyle Fowler in the discus (153-1), Richard Mumford in the long jump (21-514), Sylvester Birdsong in the high jump (6-2) and Chris Fulton in the 100 (10.72).

Lawrence girls finished first in three events: Mag Obiefule in the shot put (38-612), Rebecca Raynes in the pole vault (8-6) and Sarah Butler in the 800 (2:24.63).
