Haskell men keep conference cross country crown

With four top-five finishes, including the No. 1 spot, the Haskell Indian Nations University men’s cross country team won the Continental Athletic Conference Championship for the second year in a row and will advance to the national championship.

Haskell finished the 8K race on Friday with a 20-point team score. The next best was Florida College with a team score of 48.

Dyami Berridge took first place with a time of 27:05.8 ahead of teammate Preston Ironheart, who came in about a half minute later at 27:36.8. Florida College’s Sam Johnson (28:01.8) took third.

Haskell’s Jonathan Fragua (28:38.1) and Burton Miner III (28:40.6) rounded out the top 5, with Jeffrey DeRoche (29:29.7) taking eighth and Andrew Stump (30:15.6) just missing the top 10 in 11th place. Jaylan McCoy-Bark (30:47.7) finished for Haskell in 15th place out of 37 runners.

Berridge was named CAC Runner of the Year. The top five runners in this championship earned all-conference first-team honors and DeRoche earned second-team honors for his position in the sixth-10th spots.

Haskell will compete as a team in the NAIA National Championships on Nov. 22 in Columbia, Missouri. They won in 2023 in Vancouver, Washington, after sending just one runner to nationals in 2022.
