Eudora girls take second and Baldwin girls take third in 4A cross-country state meet, other area teams compete across the state
State cross-country meets took place in Wamego and Lawrence, with the Eudora and Baldwin girls cross-country teams both placing in the top three of the 4A race. The Cardinals placed second as a team with 89 points, while Baldwin finished in third with 90 points.
Eduora’s Hanna Keltner won the race with a time of 19 minutes, 18.56 seconds. Addison Williams placed 26th individually at 21:42.85, and Lizzie Baker’s 21:55.12 run was 29th individually.
To round out the top five, Camila Garcia placed 37th at 22:15.52, and Jade Le Vaou finished in 40th at 22:23.71. Emma Sarber finished just outside the team’s top five at 41st individually with a 22:25.25 run, and Leah Barnhart was the team’s final runner at 22:52.79.
Irelyn Kennedy led Baldwin’s third-place team finish by having the second-best time at 19:51.92. Shea Griffith finished in ninth at 20:38.76, and Kami Moore took third on the team at 21:36.74 for 23rd individually. Rachel Watkins ran in 22:19.72 for 38th individually, and Madeline Massey finished the team’s top five at 23:19.59 for 57th.
For the boys 4A race, Tonganoxie placed fifth as a team, while Baldwin finished 12th.
Parker Welsh led Tonganoxie with a time of 17:36.67, which was 15th in the race. Jett Gilmore placed 22nd at 18:06.10, and Solomon Carter finished in 25th with a time of 18:12.35. Elijah Weatherford was fourth on the team at 50th overall with an 18:56.97 run. Huston Albert rounded out the team’s top five at 19:45.55 for 75th individually, while Piercen Eccles finished in 78th at 19:54.76.
For the Baldwin Bulldogs, Nick Johnson led the team with a run of 18:43.14, which was 41st. Right behind Johnson was Jaeden Landreth at 18:47.41 for 42nd. Ty Flory placed 63rd at 19:10.25, and Landon Whaley finished 67th at 19:22.36. Ethan Smasal completed the top five with a 20:03.16 run.
In the 6A race in Lawrence, Free State’s girls team placed eighth among 6A teams with 176 points. Cayman Barnes led the Firebirds by finishing in 19th with a time of 19:34.05. Brylee Burns ran in 20:25.98 for 34th, and Elle Cormaney finished at 20:34.69 for 41st. Julia Velasco came fourth on the team at 21:55.99, which was 59th individually. Addyson Tenbrick rounded out the team’s top five by finishing in 21:30.82, which was 69th individually.
Two more Free State girls runners competed, Emery Frye and Mady Whitney, but their times of 21:47.91 and 21:59.85, respectively, didn’t count toward the team’s score. Frye placed 77th overall and Whitney placed 79th.
Jonah Frye’s 17:03.32 time was 39th in the 6A race. He was the only Firebird to compete in the boys race.
Oliver Schwartz placed 17th individually at 16:28.89 as the lone Lawrence High School runner.
