The spring sports season continued throughout the week as more sports and more local athletes got started with competition. Here are this week’s selections for Journal-World Athletes of the Week:

AJ Kimzey, Free State

AJ Kimzey

Kimzey got off to a hot start in the golf season with a win in the Justin Siler Memorial Invitational. Kimzey shot a 74 and helped lead Free State to a third-place finish with a 324 score.

Ginny Besson, Lawrence

Besson had a hat trick in Lawrence’s 6-0 win over Topeka on Friday in the team’s home opener. It was Lawrence’s second win of the season.
