Eudora girls finish as 4A track and field runners-up; Lawrence and Free State get several placers in 6A meet

Eudora’s girls track and field team finished second in the 4A state meet in Wichita on Saturday after having won the state meet last year.

The Cardinals finished second with 67 points, which was 24 points behind the first-place Andale. The team got 36 points from its jumps, 26 from its distance runs, three from relays and two from hurdles.

Senior Hanna Keltner won both the 3200-meter run with an 11 minute, 14.71-second time and the 1600-meter run at 5:08.87. She also finished third in the 800-meter dash at 2:19.02.

For sprints and relays, the girls 4×100-meter relay team placed sixth at 49.58 seconds, and sophomore Brynn Deterding placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles at 48.36 seconds.

Sophomore Izzy Brunkow won the 4A pole vault at 11 feet, 7 inches. Two of her teammates also had high finishes, with sophomore Avery Hemphill and Edie Siemon tying for sixth at 9 feet, zero inches.

Senior Adalyn Hemphill won the triple jump at 36 feet, 9.75 inches. She also took third in the long jump at 17 feet, 2.50 inches. Sophomore Stella Wyrick placed sixth in the triple jump at 33 feet, 7.50 inches, and junior Bailey Hammerschmidt took 14th at 32 feet, 11.25 inches. Sophomore Brenika Rader finished sixth in the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches.

The Eudora boys placed 17th in the meet with 17 points. Nine of those points came from jumping events, and eight came from throwing events.

In boys throwing events, senior Nate Steinlage placed third in the javelin throw at 182 feet, 1 inch, while junior Cardinal Alexander Gonzalez finished seventh at 170 feet, 7 inches. Junior Brady Von Holten placed 12th in the discus throw at 139 feet, 7 inches.

For the other field events, senior Cole Baumgartner finished seventh in the pole vault at 13 feet, zero inches, while junior Colton Browser placed eighth and sophomore Dane Baumgartner placed 10th with the same final jump. Junior George Hagan placed third in the triple jump at 44 feet, 10.25 inches

Freshman Grayson Masterson placed 12th in the 3200-meter boys run in 10:16.87. In the boys 4×800-meter relay, the Cardinals finished 12th at 8:36.06.

6A results

Free State’s girls finished 15th in 6A with 17 points. 11 of those came in the throws, while another six came from the jumping events. The Lawrence girls placed 20th with 11 points, with eight coming from jumps and three from the throwers.

The Lawrence boys placed 21st with 12 points, half coming from sprints and half coming from throws. Free State’s boys came 24th with seven points. Four of those came from relays, while the team got two from distance runs and a point in the throwing events.

For girls jumps, sophomore Sienna Wesley was the runner-up in the long jump, with an 18 foot, 0.25-inch jump. Senior Josephine Platt finished 11th in the triple jump at 34 feet, 7 inches. On the boys side, senior Jaylen Parks finished the triple jump 11th at 42 feet, 6.75 inches and the long jump 14th at 19 feet, 10.25 inches.

In the throws, junior Tyler Dye took third in the javelin throw at 185 feet, 7 inches. Fellow junior Isaiah Ferguson finished 13th in the event by throwing 149 feet, 2 inches. Sophomore Kenyon Doleman placed 15th in the high jump at six feet, zero inches. On the girls side, senior Aubrie Magnuson placed sixth in the javelin throw at 119 feet, 8 inches.

In racing events, senior Riley Howell took third in the 100-meter dash at 10.78 seconds.

Free State

Sophomore Sadie Reynolds won the discus throw at 151 feet, 2 inches. Her throw was over 20 feet further than the runner-up and was five feet away from breaking the state record. Junior Harper Graham placed eighth in the javelin throw at 114 feet, 11 inches.

In jumps, sophomore Parker Jones finished third in the long jump at 17 feet, 7.50 inches, and sophomore Jane Cast placed 13th in the pole vault at 9 feet, zero inches

For Free State’s boys, sophomore Hudson Andrew placed eighth in the javelin throw at 161 feet, 8 inches. Freshman Nathan Huerter tied for 11th in the high jump at 6 feet, zero inches.

The boys 4×800-meter relay team finished fifth in 7:55.51, while the girls 4×800-meter relay team placed 10th at 10:02.60.

Other 4A results

Baldwin

The Baldwin girls placed sixth with 40 points. 24 of those came in distance events, while 12 came from relays and four from sprints. The boys scored 26 points, which was 12th. They got 10 of those points on relays, with eight coming from throws and five on jumps. The Bulldogs took three points on sprints as well.

Brendan O’Connor placed fifth in the discus throw at 164 feet flat and fifth in the shot put at 51 feet, 1.75 inches. Junior David Wilson finished fourth in the triple jump at 44 feet, 8.25 inches.

The Baldwin girls 4×800-meter relay team won in 9:30.27, coming a little over one second behind the state 4A record. The boys 4×800-meter relay team placed fifth at 8:11.85, and the boys 4×100-meter relay team finished seventh at 44.03 seconds. The girls 4×400-meter relay team finished seventh at 4:12.12.

Irelyn Kennedy was the runner-up in the girls 3200-meter run at 11:23.97 and in the 1600-meter run at 5:14.96. Sophomore Kami Moore was the runner-up in the 800-meter run at 2:18.70, and sophomore Shea Griffith placed fifth in the 400-meter dash at 59.61 seconds.

Senior Nick Johnson placed sixth in the 800-meter dash at 1:58.48.

Tonganoxie

The Tonganoxie boys placed 15th with 20 points in the meet. Half of those points came in throwing events. They scored another six on distance runs, three on relays and a point from sprints. The girls team placed 18th with 14.50 points. 13 of those points came in throws, while 1.50 points came from the jumping events.

Senior Tucker McGuire won the 4A discus throw at 172 feet, 6 inches, which was over 2 feet further than the runner-up.

Sophomore Adalyn Schooler won the discus throw at 130 feet, 5 inches. Freshman Adlen Johnson placed sixth in the shot put by throwing a 36 feet, 3.75 inches.

For the rest of the field events, sophomore Reece Schmidt finished seventh in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches, while Schooler placed 15th at 4 feet, 10 inches. Junior Keagan Murry tied for ninth in the pole vault at 9 feet, zero inches.

The boys 4×800-meter relay team finished sixth at 8:12.60. Senior Todd Brown finished 8th in the 100-meter dash at 11.17 seconds.

Senior Solomon Carter placed third in the boys 800-meter dash at 1:56.15, while senior Kara Johnson finished 15th in the girls 800-meter dash at 2:34.47.
