Free State, Lawrence track and field teams compete in regional meets Thursday and Friday

The Free State and Lawrence track and field teams competed in two regional track meets this week, with the Firebirds at Wichita Northwest on Thursday and the Lions at Mill Valley on Friday.

Free State girls finished third in the Wichita Northwest regional track and field meet, coming in behind Manhattan and Washburn Rural with 89 points. The boys placed sixth with 44 points.

For the Free State boys’ runs, Josiah Smith placed seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.06 seconds. He finished eighth in the 200-meter dash at 23.14 seconds.

Grant Lichauer was the runner-up in the 800-meter run at 1:58.74. Jasper Hansen Terry placed sixth at 2:04.13, and Austin Drewry took seventh at 2:04.31.

Anderson Bateman took 11th in the 1600-meter run at 4:51.71, and Dylan Mackie finished the 3200-meter run at 11:06.43.

For the boys hurdles, Jayden Wilcox took ninth in the 110-meter hurdles at 17.74 seconds. In the 300-meter hurdles, Van Catloth finished fifth at 44.10 seconds, Logan Harned placed sixth at 45.44 seconds and Wilcox came seventh at 46.07 seconds.

Free State’s Kyla Meikle placed eighth in the girls 110-meter hurdles at 18.26 seconds with fellow Firebird Shana Teenor coming in one spot behind with an 18.41-second time. In the 300-meter hurdles, Harper Graham finished third at 49.49 seconds, with Meikle taking fifth at 52.57 seconds.

In the girls runs, Beatrice Essman took fourth in the 400-meter dash at 1:02.27, with Aiyanna Moss placing sixth at 1:03.02. Cayman Barnes finished third in the 800-meter run at 2:24.36, and Mady Whitney came fifth at 2:26.50. Elle Cormaney’s 2:34.01 run in the 800-meter run was eighth.

Grace Christline placed sixth in the 1600-meter run at 6:07.48, and Addyson Tenbrick finished seventh at 6:12.23. Barnes took fifth in the 3200-meter run at 12:15.40, with Julia Velasco taking 10th at 13:02.63.

In the boys relays, Free State’s 4×800-meter relay won with an 8:09.86 time. The 4×100-meter relay team placed seventh at 43.32 seconds, and the 4×400-meter relay team finished sixth at 3:32.40. The Free State girls 4×100-meter relay placed eighth at 51.34 seconds, while the 4×400-meter relay team finished fourth at 4:15.85 and the 4×800-meter relay team came third at 9:54.75.

In boys field events, Nathan Huerter placed fifth in the high jump at six feet. Ben Lyles took 11th in the event at five feet, six inches.

Hudson Andrew won the javelin throw at 166 feet, six inches, with Ollie Crowell placing 10th in the event at 118 feet, seven inches. Chris Edison placed eighth in the discus throw at 124 feet, nine inches, while Samuel Sengchan finished ninth at 122 feet, three inches. James Kahungura took 10th in the shot put at 41 feet, seven inches.

For the girls field events, Jane Cast won the pole vault at 10 feet, six inches, while Vivenne Pro came fourth at eight feet and Aiyanna Moss placed fifth at seven feet, six inches.

Sadie Reynolds won the discus throw at 131 feet, three inches, and Graham took third in the javelin throw at 114 feet, one inch.

Avery Voss finished sixth in the high jump at five feet, with Daisiana Douglas taking eighth at four feet, eight inches. Douglas came in fourth in the triple jump at 33 feet, while Voss placed seventh in the event at 31 feet, 10 inches.

Parker Jones placed third in the long jump at 17 feet, 1.5 inches, and Cast jumped 17 feet, 0.25 inches for fifth.

Lawrence tied for seventh among girls in the Mill Valley regional with 30 points and ninth among boys with 27 points.

In the relays, the Lawrence girls 4×100-meter relay team took fifth at 49.97 seconds. The Lawrence boys 4×800-meter relay team placed eighth at 8:18.12, while the 4×100-meter relay team placed seventh in 44.27 seconds. The boys 4×400-meter team finished eighth at 3:33.40.

In the girls’ races, LaKeyshia Woods finished fourth in the 400-meter dash in 59.10 seconds and Sienna Wesley placed fifth in the 200-meter dash at 26.63 seconds.

For the boys’ races, Riley Howell was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash at 10.97 and finished seventh in the 200-meter dash at 22.51 seconds. Oliver Schwartz took ninth in the 800-meter run at 2:00.12.

For the girls field events, Hadley Ornes placed seventh at five-feet flat in the high jump. Wesley took third in the long jump at 18 feet, 5.50 inches, with Josephine Platt finishing ninth at 16 feet, two inches. Platt finished fifth in the triple jump at 35 feet, seven inches, and Breahna Hernandez took ninth in the triple jump at 32 feet, two inches.

Aubrie Magnuson won the javelin throw at 125 feet, five inches.

For the boys’ field events, Jah’ir Johnson took fifth in the shot put at 50 feet, one inch, while Devin Foster placed eighth in the event at 47 feet, 3.75 inches. Tyler Dye was the runner-up in the javelin throw at 184 feet, 11 inches, while Isaiah Ferguson placed fourth in the event at 167 feet, five inches.

Kenyon Doleman placed seventh in the high jump at six feet. Jaylen Parks jumped 21 feet, 10 inches in the long jump, which was eighth, while Tahj Edwards placed 11th in the long jump at 21 feet, 2.50 inches. Parks placed seventh in the triple jump at 44 feet, 1.25 inches, and Joseph Lucas finished ninth at 43 feet, 5.50 inches. Aaden Chee tied for ninth in the pole vault at 11 feet, six inches.

The state track and field meet will be held at Wichita State University starting May 30.
