Lawrence traveled to Olathe North for a pair of basketball games, losing both. The girls lost 85-66, and the boys lost 60-33.
In the girls basketball game, the Lions played a well-rounded offensive game. They hit 3s, got to the free-throw line, and distributed the ball, which resulted in 66 points.
The Eagles, however, had an unstoppable shooter: Junior Asia Lee. She scored 44 points in the 85-66 Olathe North victory.
Lawrence sophomore center Cami Nauholz scored the first basket of the game, and senior guard D’ema Barnes scored a deep 2-pointer later, which gave the Lions a 4-2 lead. The Eagles took the lead with a 12-4 run midway through the quarter.
The Lions fought back with two 3s from junior Jada Baars and four points on free throws from Nauholz. The Lions held an 18-15 lead, but the Eagles finished the quarter on a 6-0 run to take the lead for good. A couple of turnovers aided the Eagles in retaking the lead at the end of the quarter.
The Eagles gained a 10-point lead midway through the second quarter, but the Lions managed to pull within 8 points at halftime with timely 3-pointers from seniors Nyasia Ramos and Ajala Glover.
Olathe North separated with a commanding lead in the third quarter. The Eagles regained their 10-point lead and pushed toward a 20-point lead late with two 3s from Lee and a buzzer-beater layup from Allie Workman. They led the Lions 62-43 at the start of the fourth.
Lawrence continued to be effective on offense. Barnes scored 7 points early, Nauholz added two free throws to the score and Glover hit another 3.
Still, the Lions couldn’t keep up with the Eagles. For the majority of the fourth quarter, the Lions fought to keep the game around 20 points. Nauholz scored the final 7 points for the Lions, bringing her total to 24 in the game. Her final bucket kept the game under a 20-point win for the Eagles.
