This past weekend featured three Sunflower League Championships in boys swimming and diving, girls wrestling and boys wrestling. At these tournaments, local area athletes competed and starred in various events. Here are this week’s Journal-World Athletes of the Week selections:

Lou Elsten, Lawrence

Elsten won the 126-pound weight class with a technical fall in the championship match of the Sunflower League tournament. He had two quick pins in his first two matches before the title bout and led 16-0 before the final bout was called.

Daijah Preston, Free State

Preston was the runner-up in the 135-pound weight class and was one of eight wrestlers between Lawrence and Free State to reach the podium in the Sunflower League tournament. She won two matches in the tournament.
