The spring sports season is around a month away from its conclusion, and local teams and athletes are battling for seeding positions to enter the postseason at the top of their sports. Here are this week’s selections for Athletes of the Week:

Erin Derby, Lawrence

Lawrence senior Erin Derby defends Free State freshman Evelyn Rivera in a 4-2 Lawrence win on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in Lawrence.

Lawrence beat Shawnee Mission North 6-0 on Tuesday and scored on four corner kicks on which Derby put the ball in play. In addition to assisting on goals, Derby scored one of her own for the team’s final goal in the win.

Henry Thompson, Free State

Henry Thompson

Free State took third in the Seaman Invitational on Wednesday, and Thompson finished eighth in the individual leaderboard, scoring a 4-over 76.
