Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly on Thursday took an aerial tour of the destruction left by an EF-4 tornado that ripped across parts of Douglas and Leavenworth counties Tuesday evening.

The Associated Press accompanied the governor on the flight and took photos of the tornado’s path, which stretched nearly 32 miles from southwest Douglas County to the northeast and into Leavenworth County. Dozens of homes and other buildings were heavily damaged in areas near Lone Star Lake, rural Douglas County south and east of Lawrence, and Linwood.
