Letter to the editor: A promising organization

To the editor:

A mental review of 15 years helping and hosting the moms and dads and children of Family Promise of Lawrence provides my mind with a slide show of many courageous successes.

My husband, Bob, and I have attended housewarmings, seen jobs secured, built lifelong friendships. We’ve personally hired former Family Promise guests; we’ve seen other graduates become city leaders. We’ve attended weddings, showers and funerals. We’ve seen the children we hosted go on to professional school and lead their own families well. We’ve never known of a police call or complaints by neighbors to a hosting congregation.

We continue to give to Family Promise and believe in the work of Family Promise and trust in the organization’s excellent leadership. Practices developed at our local Lawrence Family Promise affiliate have been adopted at other affiliates across the nation.

A static site shelter is the next best step for serving Lawrence families well. City leaders, please approve the special use permit for the building on Hope Court. Please help Family Promise of Lawrence continue to help families experiencing homelessness grow and succeed.

Katherine Dinsdale,

Lawrence
