To the editor:

Donald Trump, in the spirit of gratitude, wrote a Thanksgiving message on “Truth Social.” After some opening statements, he added a heartfelt warning about “all of the other Radical Left Lunatics, Communists, Fascists, Marxists, Democrats, & RINOS, who are seriously looking to DESTROY OUR COUNTRY.” I must admit, that really hits home. Now, I don’t consider myself a Communist. Mr. Trump certainly knows more about Fascists than I do, so I will pass on that. I do admit to being something just as nefarious: a card-carrying Democrat.

I need to reread the party platform to verify Trump’s allegation that we intend to destroy the country. If destroy America it is, I want to know what’s in it for me. If my occasional campaign contributions, letter writing, talking to friends and — most fiendish of all — VOTING do aid the destruction of our country, I should get something for my efforts. Otherwise, why bother? I rather do like some things the government does: the FDA, FAA, Navy, etc., and wouldn’t like to lose those. I always have been fond of the electric grid and would like to keep it running. Failure of our monetary system would be a real inconvenience, so I don’t see why I would want that to happen.

I think before I burn my Democrat membership card, I need Mr. Trump to get more specific about what we are trying to destroy and why. (I hope asking him to clarify what he says does not get me reclassified as “vermin” to be eradicated.)
