Sixteen organizations in Douglas County failed state health code inspections in July.

Each month, I take a look at inspection results and list every place either listed out of compliance or with 10 or more code violations. Full reports are available online at agriculture.ks.gov.

There, you can find details about specific violations, which can vary. Noncritical citations include unlabeled products, improperly stored cleaning materials, minor plumbing issues and more. Critical violations include cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods, insect and rodent issues, unclean food preparation areas and more.

Some violations may be corrected during the inspection, while others take longer to fix and require follow-up inspections.

All businesses, even those listed out of compliance, met the basic requirements to safely remain open, unless otherwise noted.

With this regular report, I try to provide basic information about food inspections in Douglas County. But because of the sheer volume of inspections, it’s difficult to offer detailed information about each establishment.

Here are Douglas County inspection results for July:

• Red Pepper Chinese Restaurant, 821 Iowa St., last had a follow-up inspection on July 1 and five violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• KCG & Dago’s, 454 N. Iowa St., last had a licensing inspection on July 1 and two violations were found. The business is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Mi Ranchito, 707 W. 23rd St., last had a routine inspection on July 2 and eight violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Sonic Drive-In, 1420 Church St., Eudora, last had a follow-up inspection on July 3 and three violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• McClain’s Market, 1420 Crescent Road, last had a follow-up inspection on July 3 and one violation was found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Cielito Lindo Mexican Restaurant, 815 New Hampshire St., last had a follow-up inspection on July 11 and four violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• India Palace, 129 10th St., last had a follow-up inspection on July 15 and eight violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Pepper Jax Grill, 919 Massachusetts St., last had a routine inspection on July 22 and eight violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Papa Keno’s Pizzeria, 1035 Massachusetts St., last had a routine inspection on July 22 and 13 violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• The Merc Co-op, 901 Iowa St., last had a routine inspection on July 23 and six violations were found. The grocery is currently listed as out of compliance.

• John Brown Underground/Wake the Dead, 7 E. Seventh St., last had a follow-up inspection on July 24 and nine violations were found.

• Charritos Plaza, 202 E. 10th St., Eudora, last had a follow-up inspection on July 25 and 10 violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Munchers Bakery, 925 Iowa St., last had a routine inspection on July 29 and three violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• The Burger Stand, 803 Massachusetts St., last had an inspection because of a complaint on July 29 and eight violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• F-Mart, 530 Colorado St., last had a routine inspection on July 30 and 12 violations were found. The grocery store is currently listed as out of compliance.

• The Levee Cafe, 239 Elm St., last had a routine inspection on July 31 and 14 violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

Ten organizations that were found out of compliance in recent months are now back in compliance:

• Aimee’s Cafe and Coffeehouse, 1025 Massachusetts St., Ste. A, last had an inspection for a modified complaint on July 22 and 2 violations were found. The cafe is currently listed as in compliance.

• Dillons, 1740 Massachusetts St., last had a follow-up inspection on July 5 and four violations were found. The grocery store is currently listed as in compliance.

• Encore Cafe, 1007 Massachusetts St., last had a follow-up inspection on July 8 and three violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as in compliance.

• Zen Zero, 811 Massachusetts St., last had a routine inspection on July 22 and two violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as in compliance.

• Panera Bread, 520 W. 23rd St., last had a routine inspection on July 5 and no violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as in compliance.

• Kwik Shop, 4841 W. Sixth St., last had a follow-up inspection on July 5 and no violations were found. The convenience store is currently listed as in compliance.

• Brothers Bar and Grill, 1105 Massachusetts St., last had a follow-up inspection on July 10 and two violations were found. The bar is currently listed as in compliance.

• Taco Zone, 13 E. Eighth St., last had a follow-up inspection on July 11 and no violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as in compliance.

• The Nest on Ninth at the Oread Hotel, 1200 Oread Ave., last had a follow-up inspection on July 10, and one violation was found. The restaurant is currently listed as in compliance.

• VFW Post No. 852, 1802 Massachusetts St., last had a follow-up inspection on July 26 and three violations were found. The organization is currently listed as in compliance.

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, 1115 Massachusetts St., which was found out of compliance in March, and Milton’s Cafe, 901 New Hampshire St., which was found out of compliance in April, have not yet had follow-up inspections. Both are currently listed as out of compliance.
