A teacher at Corpus Christi Catholic School has been placed on administrative leave following concerns about the teacher’s “alleged behavior,” which school officials say is under investigation.

In an email shared with parents and families on Oct. 23, principal Heather Stressman said the concern had been brought to the school’s attention and “as part of our established protocol for responding to concerns of this nature, the teacher has been placed on administrative leave while the matter is reviewed.”

A report has been filed with the Kansas Department for Children and Families, and in a separate email shared on the same day, the school said it had been informed by “authorities” that the investigative process was expected to move forward this week, with initial steps focused on gathering information and developing a clearer understanding of the situation.

“The wheels of justice often turn slowly, and we thank you for your patience,” the second email, signed by Stessman and Rev. Carter Zielinski said.

The email encouraged families to continue having conversations with their children about how important it is to say something to an adult if they ever feel uncomfortable or “if they feel like something is happening that shouldn’t be happening.” If a child shares a concern, parents and families are encouraged to contact the appropriate authorities.

“Because this is a personnel matter and an active investigation, we are limited in the information we can share,” Stessman and Zielinski said. “We ask that everyone be mindful of our conversations, respect the privacy of those involved, and allow the investigative process to proceed without speculation.”

The school staff said they will share additional information as it becomes available.

The Journal-World has reached out to the school for additional comment, but officials there did not immediately respond Friday afternoon.

Starting at $4.45/week.
