Carrie Schmidt is pictured on Monday, March 10, 2025, at a school board meeting in Lawrence.
A public commenter who has been frequently attending Lawrence school board meetings was escorted out of the meeting for refusing to obey board rules.
Carrie Schmidt, who resides in Johnson County, has attended the last several Lawrence school board meetings protesting against the district’s public comment policy. She has also read obscenities and sexually explicit material to board members, saying the books were available in school libraries. On Monday, Schmidt was escorted out of the building by Lawrence Police Department Officers at the meeting.
Jones immediately gave Schmidt her first warning to stop using foul language, or she would be asked to leave, but she kept speaking.
After that, Schmidt was muted online, but for those attending the meeting in person, she was still heard talking about why she was against the school district’s policy for public comment, and she was then escorted out of the building by two LPD officers.
As the Journal-World reported, there have been multiple instances where frequent public commenters were refusing to obey board rules and using disruptive, foul and obscene language. There were two public commenters watching Monday’s meeting online who were also muted after using obscene language.
