Community breakfast event spotlights student and staff achievements in Lawrence school district

The Lawrence Schools Foundation held its annual Community Education Breakfast Friday morning at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel.
Five hundred local businesspeople and community members, as well as teachers and district officials, attended. The event is an opportunity for community members to demonstrate their support for public education. It also highlights achievements among district students and staff.
Friday’s keynote speaker was Jared Stone, a 1995 Lawrence High School alumnus and a marketing executive for Warner Bros. His message to the crowd was to seize opportunities that come your way and to not be afraid to “take your shot.”
According to information from the district, the Lawrence Schools Foundation has raised $6.5 million over the past five years, including $100,000 for teacher and school assistance grants and $100,000 for teacher and staff recognition and awards.
