Two Douglas County Jail inmates charged with gun crimes and awaiting trial are now being charged with trafficking contraband in a correctional facility.

Eighteen-year-old Caiden Clem, who has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon in the Jan. 17 shooting at The Hawk bar, was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of trafficking contraband in the jail, a felony, on April 3. The charge was filed April 22.

Twenty-four-year-old Temujin Jernigan, who has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in the Jan. 23 shooting of a 23-year-old man at the Hawks Pointe apartments and numerous drug crimes, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of trafficking an illegal controlled substance, pursuant to a charge filed April 22. The charging document does not specifically identify the substance, but it indicates the day of the offense was April 3 and lists Clem and other inmates, including Joshua Mayo, as witnesses.

Clem is scheduled to be arraigned on The Hawk-related charges on June 11. Jernigan is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in the apartment shooting on June 4. As of Tuesday, both men were being held on bonds of $1 million or more in the Douglas County Jail.

Clem made his first appearance Tuesday afternoon in the contraband case, in which his bond was set at $500,000. He told Judge Blake Glover that his lawyer was attempting to have his $1 million bond lowered in The Hawk case and he asked how that effort would be affected. Glover told him that typically an attorney would seek modifications of both bond amounts. Glover set May 6 as the next court date in the contraband case.
