This Cessna plane crashed Saturday near Vinland after failing to stop on the runway while landing.

An airplane that was found by the side of the road Saturday near Vinland crashed after failing to stop on the runway and then striking a tree, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The plane was discovered by a passerby Saturday at 1700 Road and County Road 460 about two miles north of Baldwin City. No pilot was with the plane when it was found.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the 1978 Cessna single engine fixed wing aircraft was flown by Arnold Nguyen, 26, of Kansas City, Missouri. Nguyen was wearing a seat belt at the time and was not injured.

KHP said the Cessna “landed long” and failed to stop on the runway. It then crossed the roadway to the north and struck a tree.

The Journal-World has reached out to officials at the Vinland airport, which did not have an immediate comment on the matter.

The Cessna in police photographs appears to be the same kind of plane shown on the website of Vinland Flight School.
