Three Wichita men and one juvenile were arrested Sunday evening on suspicion of felony shoplifting after they reportedly grabbed at least $2,500 in gaming equipment from the Lawrence Best Buy and dashed out of the store.

Lawrence police, calling the men “brazen thieves,” said that just before closing time they bypassed a store employee, went behind a counter, grabbed the equipment and quickly took off in a car that had been left running outside. The incident took only about two minutes, police said.

A Lawrence officer tracked down the suspects with the help of a store asset manager and the Kansas Highway Patrol. The vehicle’s license plate was registered to Sedgwick County. A KHP trooper pulled the car over just north of Emporia, and the suspects were taken back to Douglas County. The trooper turned over a total of seven gaming consoles that were found in the vehicle, police said.

The Douglas County Jail booking log indicates Tyrese Tyrone Gibson, 18, Marquez Davon Edmond Sr., 30, and Leon Dixon IV, 22, all of Wichita, were arrested around 9 p.m. Sunday in connection with the incident. The unnamed juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center. All four were charged on Monday with felony theft, which in Kansas is theft of property or services valued between $1,500 and $25,000.
