Runner between Lawrence and Eudora struck by vehicle, seriously injured early Friday morning
A pedestrian early Friday morning was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured along a portion of Old K-10 Highway between Lawrence and Eudora.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s office reports that a runner was hit by a vehicle just before 5:30 a.m. on Friday on N 1400 Road between the intersections of E 1900 and E 2000 roads. Medics transported the runner by ambulance to an area hospital with serious injuries. The drive of the vehicle also was transported with injuries that appeared to be minor, according to the sheriff’s office.
This is the second serious pedestrian versus vehicle accident on that stretch of road in the last month. On July 22, Clayton L. Place, a 30-year old Lawrence resident, was struck while riding his bicycle on the same section of road. Place later died from his injuries.
Deputies closed the portion of the road while conducting their investigation, and drivers are asked to find an alternate route until the road reopens.
