A 27-year-old pedestrian early Friday morning was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured along a portion of Old K-10 Highway between Lawrence and Eudora.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports that an eastbound runner was hit by a westbound 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier just before 5:30 a.m. Friday on North 1400 Road between the intersections of East 1900 and East 2000 roads. Medics took the runner by ambulance to a Kansas City-area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a 70-year-old Eudora man, was taken to LMH Health with injuries that appeared to be minor, according to the sheriff’s office, who said the man was later released.

This is the second serious pedestrian-vehicle accident on that stretch of road in the last month. On July 22, Clayton L. Place, a 30-year old Lawrence resident, was struck while riding his bicycle on the same section of road. Place later died from his injuries.

Deputies closed the portion of the road while conducting their investigation. The road reopened shortly before 9:30 a.m.
