Lawrence police are “sifting through” a load of suspected stolen goods they recovered on Monday morning, and might be able to start returning some items to their owners.
The recovered items include computers, tablets, specialty electronics, tools, and at least 30 identification cards, according to a release from the Lawrence Police Department.
“We’re still sifting through it all so please hang tight! It’s going to take some time,” the release said.
In total, the department estimates more than $10,000 in merchandise was recovered. The department has begun piecing together where the merchandise was taken from and contacting crime victims when possible, the release said.
The merchandise was recovered after the arrest of a Kansas City area man at Motel 6, 1130 N 3rd St, Monday morning. The release does not list the man’s name.
In addition to the stolen merchandise, officers also seized a stolen vehicle and illegal drugs from the motel.
The investigation is still in its first stages and as police work through the evidence, they will provide information as to how crime victims can begin to claim any stolen property, the release said.
