Story updated at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 11, 2025.

A two-vehicle crash in which a van flipped upside down disrupted traffic in downtown Lawrence on Saturday.

The crash occurred around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Sixth and Vermont streets. Two vehicles at the intersection were heavily damaged — one, a gray Chrysler Town and Country van, was on its roof on Vermont Street, and the other, a white Chevrolet Impala, was in the intersection with its airbags deployed. The van had a temporary handicapped tag on it.

One person was seen on a stretcher at the scene but was not put in an ambulance. Police were directing traffic at the intersection.

The Lawrence Police Department said in an email Sunday that a doctor happened to be on scene at the time of the wreck and rendered aid, though no injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
