Lawrence police arrested a man Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder and other crimes after an incident involving gunfire inside a vehicle, according to a post on the police department’s Facebook page on Sunday.
The post said police were called to the area of Morningside and Brush Creek after reports of gunshots about 9 p.m. Saturday. There they arrested a man who they allege tried to shoot the driver of a car in the head. They also allege that the man struck the driver and a woman who was in the car with the gun itself, according to the post.
The post said a 5-year-old child was in the car at the time but was unhurt. The driver and the woman, who police say knocked the gun away during the alleged shooting, had “obvious facial injuries,” the post said.
The investigation is ongoing.
According to the Douglas County jail log, Elijah Joseph Garcia was arrested at 10:29 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of aggravated battery, attempted murder in the second degree and aggravated endangering of a child.
