A fundraiser was created on Friday to help pay for a celebration of life ceremony for a Lawrence woman who was found stabbed to death in an unsanctioned tent camp in North Lawrence.

The GoFundMe page is in support of Crystal White, 51, who was found dead Thursday around 4:30 a.m. near 100 Maple St., the apparent victim of a homicide as the Journal-World reported.

The fundraiser was created by her sister, Angelina Cruz, of Lawrence. White is survived by eight children, two sisters and her mother, according to the fundraiser page.

“She was a very loving and giving person. She would give everything she had away if it meant” somebody else could be happy, the page said.

Another of White’s sisters, Melissa White-Gustafson, previously told the Journal-World that one of White’s passions was music as it could soothe her in her most trying times.

Lawrence police have yet to confirm if they have arrested a suspect, but they have detained a person of interest. They believe there is not an ongoing danger to the community directly related to the incident, they said.
