Three people were displaced from this home after an early-morning fire Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at 2200 Harper St.

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated arson in connection with a February fire at a Lawrence residence, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical said Monday in a news release.

As the Journal-World reported, on Feb. 26, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical units were called to a fire at an occupied house at 2200 Harper St. Crews reported a working fire in a small house that was extending to a neighboring structure. All occupants were safely evacuated, including a pet cat. Firefighters were able to limit impact to neighboring structures, but damage to the original structure is estimated at $36,000 for both structural damage and content loss.

LDCFM investigators have concluded that the fire was intentionally set. Multiple outside agencies were involved in the investigation, including the Lawrence Police Department, Kansas State Fire Marshal Investigations Division, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the FBI.

The suspect, a 44-year-old woman, Judith Gomez Siles, was arrested on April 25.

“This investigation represents a significant effort on the part of LDCFM and our cooperating agencies to identify the person responsible for this fire,” Fire Chief Rich Llewellyn said in the release.
