Three people were displaced from this home after an early-morning fire Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at 2200 Harper St.

The cause of an early-morning fire Monday that displaced three people from their home in eastern Lawrence is under investigation, according to a news release from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.

Crews responded around 3:15 a.m. to a reported fire in a trailer home at 2200 Harper St. that was extending to a trailer next door.

Crews searched both trailers to confirm that everyone was out, and they extinguished the fire. The incident was reported under control at 3:44 a.m.

The first trailer received significant damage, keeping two adults and one child from being able to return, the release said. Representatives from the American Red Cross were contacted to assist the people, and Animal Control was requested to help with a family cat that was removed during the fire.

The trailer next door received significant damage to its exterior, but residents were allowed to return to it later in the morning.

There were no reports of injuries to civilians or firefighters, the release said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no damage estimates are available.
