A man wanted by Lawrence police for his role in an alleged domestic violence incident has been found dead in Johnson County, law enforcement announced Friday afternoon.

According to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to an area near 200th Street and Homestead Lane on a report of an unoccupied vehicle. They searched the area and found 27-year-old Cole Brings Plenty dead in a wooded area away from the vehicle.

Brings Plenty was being sought by Lawrence police in connection with an incident on Easter Sunday at a Lawrence apartment. Officers responded to reports of a female screaming for help, but the suspect fled before officers arrived, a news release from the Lawrence Police Department said. The investigation identified Brings Plenty, and traffic cameras reportedly showed him leaving the city immediately after the incident, traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 59 in a 2005 Ford Explorer.

Lawrence police had asked for the public’s help in locating Brings Plenty, but they repeatedly said that they would not release further details about the incident at the apartment. In a news release on Tuesday, the department said that was because the incident “involves allegations of domestic violence, which limits the amount of information we can share to protect the victim.”

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating Brings Plenty’s death, and it asks anyone with information to call (913) 782-0720.
