A Lawrence man who was out on bond in four battery cases was arrested on suspicion of stabbing another man Saturday in downtown Lawrence.

Police responded to the intersection of 10th and Kentucky streets just before 2 p.m. They found a man with a stab wound to the abdomen and blood on his face, said Laura McCabe, a spokesperson with the Lawrence Police Department.

“The stabbing was a result of a fight between two people known to each other,” McCabe said.

An officer spotted the suspect trying to board a bus at Seventh and Vermont streets and was able to take him off of the bus without further incident. The stabbing victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, McCabe said.

Timothy Lamont Joseph Cable, 28, was arrested around 2 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of felony aggravated battery.

Court records indicate that Cable was on bond at the time of the incident and had an own-recognizance bond of $2,500 in each of four cases, meaning he was not required to pay any money to be released from jail but could have been charged that amount if he failed to appear in court.

Two of the cases Cable bonded out on are probation violation cases from two 2022 convictions. One conviction is for one count each of misdemeanor battery and theft. The other is a misdemeanor domestic battery conviction.

Cable is awaiting trial in two other cases: a misdemeanor domestic battery case filed in March and a misdemeanor violation of a protection order case filed in May.

The violation of a protection order case was originally filed as a felony aggravated battery charge where it was alleged that Cable hit a woman with a piece of rebar. The felony battery charge was dismissed by the state after the woman testified in July at a preliminary hearing that she did not know who hit her, according to court records.

Cable has an additional conviction in Douglas County from 2013 for misdemeanor battery and drug possession, according to court records.

Cable was charged on Monday with one felony count of aggravated battery and is being held on a $50,000 cash or surety bond. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 30, according to court records.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s office declined to release Cable’s booking photo.
