A Lawrence man faces up to 12 years for drug charges after accepting a plea agreement on Friday.
Quinton Shawn Wilson, 44, pleaded no contest to one count of distribution of methamphetamine, a level-two drug felony. He was represented by defense attorney Philip Crawford, and he originally faced four counts of distribution, but three of the charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Wilson was charged after Lawrence police used a confidential informant to arrange a drug deal and recorded Wilson selling the informant 13 grams of meth, said Senior Assistant District Attorney David Greenwald.
Judge Sally Pokorny said that if Wilson had been found guilty on multiple counts of the distribution charge she could sentence him to as much as 24 years given his criminal history but by accepting the plea Wilson would face only up to 12 years and as little as seven years with good time.
Wilson has multiple felony convictions, including a criminal threat conviction in Franklin County and multiple attempts to elude law enforcement in Leavenworth County, according to Kansas Department of Corrections records. It wasn’t immediately clear Friday if he had convictions from other jurisdictions. Pokorny said his criminal history score was “A,” the highest level on the Kansas sentencing guidelines.
Wilson is scheduled for sentencing on June 15.
