A Lawrence man who was originally charged with rape has been convicted of attempted aggravated battery and other offenses and has been sentenced to probation.
The man, Michael L. Landon, 55, was sentenced by Judge Kay Huff to 33 months in prison for aggravated battery, which is a felony, and two additional felony charges involving unlawful sexual relations, but the sentence was suspended to 24 months of probation.
Landon was originally charged in March 2021 with the rape of a teenager related to an incident in July 2020. He was arrested on March 15, 2021, and was released on a $50,000 bond three days later, according to court records. He has no other criminal history listed in Douglas County records.
Landon pleaded guilty to the amended charges in early February and was sentenced on April 1, according to court records. As a part of his plea agreement, he is required to undergo a mental health evaluation, drug and alcohol evaluation, and sex offender evaluation and to follow recommendations provided in those evaluations.
Landon is not required to register as a sex offender for the amended charges. He was ordered to pay court costs and fees.
