Thousands of KU fans storm Massachusetts Street after KU's 72-69 win over North Carolina Monday, April 4, 2022, in the men's NCAA basketball championship.
The NCAA Championship brought thousands to downtown Massachusetts St. but what it didn’t bring was a lot of arrests.
Despite the increased police presence from multiple county and city law enforcement, or because of it, Lawrence only experienced a small uptick in crime. In a tweet immediately after the celebration, the Lawrence Police Department estimated about 70,000 people were in attendance but reported only 3 arrests on Mass St. and no injuries.
Law enforcement only arrested a few people for criminal damage to property and DUI throughout the city, according to the jail booking log.
The highest severity level arrest made during the evening was of a Topeka man, Greyson Wesley Marsh, 22, who was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, criminal threat and battery on a law enforcement officer.
Charges for Marsh have yet to be filed and he is currently booked into the county jail with no bond set.
