Teen injured when hardware hits face after crashing through windshield

A Missouri teenager was hospitalized after a nut and bolt crashed through the windshield of a vehicle in west Lawrence and struck her in the face.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol online crash logs, the accident occurred about 5 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of U.S. Highway 40/Kansas Highway 10 and Bob Billings Parkway. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the 2017 Honda Pilot driven by Andrew Sears, 45, of Willard. Mo., was southbound on U.S. 40/K-10 when a “large” bolt and nut “fell” through the vehicle’s windshield and struck passenger Linzie M. Sanders, 15, of Willard. Mo., in the face. The teenager was transported to Overland Park Regional Hospital with suspected serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle and passengers, Amanda Sue Sanders, 43, Dylan P. Sears, 10, Lauren E. Sears, 19, all of Willard, Mo., were uninjured in the incident.

The Kansas Highway Patrol report does not say where the nut and bolt originated.
