One of two Missouri brothers accused of shooting firearms into the air outside a Lawrence bar has been convicted in Douglas County District Court through a plea deal.

Cade R. Gosewisch, 21, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., this week pleaded no contest to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.

The terms of the plea agreement were not immediately available. A records clerk for the court said on Thursday the plea agreement had not yet been formally filed.

The charge was a level-seven felony, according to a charging document in the case. For an individual with no prior criminal history, the conviction comes with a standard sentence of 12 months of probation with an underlying sentence of 12 months in prison.

Gosewisch is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 16.

Meanwhile, his brother, Chance Gosewisch, 24, of Kansas City, Mo., has not appeared in court since July. He has been scheduled to appear in court in September, but did not show. The court issued a warrant for his arrest in October, according to court records. Jill Jess, a spokeswoman for the DA’s Office, said she could not provide any information about Chance’s case or his arrest warrant.

The brothers were arrested in July after an incident outside Brothers Bar and Grill in downtown Lawrence, the Journal-World reported.

Patrick Compton, a spokesman for the Lawrence Police Department at the time, said officers responded to a call in the 1100 block of Massachusetts Street, near the bar, just before midnight on July 10 for a disturbance involving guns. After arriving, the police were told that the two men brandished firearms in a threatening manner at bystanders before shooting into the air and leaving the area.

Lawrence police arrested the brothers shortly after midnight at R Bar and Patio, 610 Florida St., according to the Douglas County Jail booking log.

During their first appearance in court, two different men were listed as the alleged victims in the separate charges. Judge James T. George ordered the brothers to be barred from returning to 1105 Massachusetts St., which is the address of Brothers Bar and Grill in Lawrence.

George set a $6,000 cash or surety bond for both cases. They both posted bond and were released from custody on July 12.
