The second of four men charged in connection with a series of robberies in February and March of 2018 has been convicted.

Corey Tremain Allen, 31, of McDonough, Ga., pleaded no contest Tuesday, and Judge Kay Huff found him guilty of three felony charges: robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threat.

On Feb. 20, 2018, Allen and Justice L. Dent, whose case is pending, allegedly knocked on the door of an apartment in the 2000 block of West Sixth Street, the Journal-World has reported. They were wearing masks like those from the movie “The Purge.”

Prosecutor Deborah Moody said in court Tuesday that Allen pointed a gun at the three women inside the apartment while Dent allegedly searched for property to steal, then eventually took some DJ equipment.

According to a police affidavit in the case, the series of burglaries were orchestrated by one man: 21-year-old True J. Shipley, of Covington, Ga. Police allege that Shipley set up marijuana buys with people he knew were selling, but instead of buying, his friends robbed victims in three Lawrence homes.

Robberies were planned but not carried out in two other homes, police allege.

Allen had initially been charged with seven counts total — five felonies and two misdemeanors.

Moody and Allen’s defense attorney, Branden Smith, agreed to recommend that the judge sentence Allen to 58 months — nearly five years — in prison. Huff ordered a presentence investigation to determine Allen’s criminal history, and his sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 17.

Allen must register as a violent offender for 15 years after he is released from prison.

A Kansas City, Kan., man, Rodney L. McNeal, now 23, was sentenced in May to nearly three years in prison for shooting a man who came home to find McNeal burglarizing his apartment on March 8, 2018, the Journal-World has reported.

Dent’s next court date is scheduled for Sept. 26, according to online court records. Shipley is scheduled for a hearing on Oct. 15.
