A man bit an officer who was trying to arrest him early Monday morning, Lawrence police said.

Officers were dispatched to a possible domestic disturbance just before 2:40 a.m. in the 2600 block of Belle Crest Drive, Officer Derrick Smith said in an email to media. On the way, officers learned that a man had allegedly kicked in a window and gone inside a home.

Police detained the man, but during the course of their investigation he became “agitated and aggressive,” Smith said.

While detained the man bit the officer and kicked another officer, Smith said. The man was then taken into custody and booked into jail on suspicion of battery on a law enforcement officer, interfering with law enforcement and disorderly conduct. Police believe alcohol contributed to the incident.

The officers suffered minor injuries but returned to duty, Smith said.

According to jail records, the 28-year-old suspect lives at the home where he was arrested.
