Kansas residents who are interested in attending the University of Kansas or a host of other universities and community colleges in the state have through Wednesday to file student applications for free.

All six of the state’s Regents universities, plus all community colleges and public technical colleges in Kansas are waiving their student application fees now through Wednesday, the Kansas Board of Regents has announced.

The free college application days is an effort that the Regents began several years ago to remove a financial hurdle that stop some students from applying to attend college. Application fees often run $40 to $50 for many students in the state.

During the three-day period, a variety of student types will be able to submit an application without a fee. Those include: Kansas residents who are first-time freshmen, transfer students, returning students, and applicants seeking a second bachelor’s degree. The fee waiver is available to all such students, and is not income based.

Graduate students aren’t eligible for the fee waiver.
