Performances at the KU CREES Spring Festival on March 3 will include live music by Hrvatski Običaj, a 20-piece Croatian band featuring traditional stringed instruments.

A festival celebrating the cultures of Eastern Europe and Eurasia is set for Sunday in downtown Lawrence.

The Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies will host its annual Spring Festival from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Liberty Hall in downtown. The free event will feature a live musical performance from a 20-piece Croatian band, and a special performance of Ukrainian folk dancing.

Additional free food from the region also will be available at the event.

The event has taken place for many years, but has grown in popularity enough that organizers decided to move it to Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St., to accommodate larger crowds.

KU’s Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies is one of the more active centers of its kind among U.S. universities. Leaders of the center sponsor the annual festival in an effort to “inspire more people to learn about this often misunderstood region,” KU said in a release.
