KU has signed a new agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency to collaborate on research and other initiatives.

The University of Kansas’ Center for Environmental Policy will work with the EPA’s Region 7 office in Lenexa to develop future research projects and also to create opportunities for KU student researchers to work with the EPA.

Under the agreement, the EPA may make paid and volunteer internship projects available to KU students. The agreement also creates opportunities for the EPA to access various faculty on the KU campus and to participate in mini-courses, lectures and seminars, according to a press release from the university.

The two entities envision working to create environmental demonstration projects in or near Lawrence. At a recent ceremony related to the signing of the agreement, the two parties highlighted a recent pilot project with Lawrence-based Just Food to keep food waste at the food bank out of the landfill by converting it into compost.
