Award-winning podcaster Rebecca Nagle to be keynote speaker at KU conference on diversity and multiculturalism

An award-winning podcaster about tribal and Native American issues will headline a KU conference on diversity and multiculturalism this fall.

Rebecca Nagle, the host of the podcast “This Land,” will be the keynote speaker at the Michael Tilford Conference on Diversity & Multiculturalism on Oct. 18, the University of Kansas announced Thursday.

The conference, which will take place on KU’s Lawrence campus, is a project of the Kansas Board of Regents, and the event will feature workshops and presentations aimed at helping higher education institutions in Kansas address issues related to diversity, inclusion, equity and other such topics.

Nagle is a member of the Cherokee Nation, and through her podcast she frequently tells stories of conflict between American Indian tribes, the federal government and the legal system. Her podcast gained fame in 2019 by focusing on a small-town murder case in Oklahoma that led to a Supreme Court case that involved a question of whether millions of acres of Oklahoma land should be returned to tribal control. In addition to her work on tribal issues, Nagle also has led projects that advocate for the survivors of sexual assault.

The conference is free to attend, but KU is asking individuals to register in advance. More details on the conference can be found online at diversity.ku.edu.
