A University of Kansas course focusing on angry white men received some national attention on Wednesday.
The course Angry White Male Studies is listed as a Humanities and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies course in the KU catalog for the 2019-2020 school year. Conservative higher education website Campus Reform and media outlets the New York Post and the Washington Times reported on the existence of the course on Wednesday.
Several comments from Campus Reform readers expressed disgust and anger at the existence of the course. At the bottom of the Campus Reform story, the website asks readers to donate money to the website to help “expose the liberal bias on college campuses.”
The course, which will be offered in the fall for the first time, will be taught by Christopher Forth, a humanities professor. Forth and Margot Versteeg, interim director of KU’s Humanities Program, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
According to the course catalog, Angry White Male Studies will explore “the rise of the ‘angry white male’ in America and Britain since the 1950s.” It will focus on how masculinity is represented and experienced during periods of change.
