The Sunrise Project announced on Tuesday that it would begin operating out of a North Lawrence church and would temporarily pause operations starting in March pending the move.
The Sunrise Project is a nonprofit that provides community meals and education “to build an equitable community through education, good food, and social connection,” according to its website. The owner of the Sunrise Project’s current property at 1501 Learnard Ave. decided to sell the building, forcing the project to find a new headquarters.
The new headquarters will be at Centenary United Methodist Church in North Lawrence at 245 N. Fourth St., according to a social media post from the project. The post said that the new partnership with the church was based on “shared values of social justice, inclusivity and social connection.”
With the move, the Sunrise Project’s site-based programming will pause operations beginning March 1 and resume sometime in late April or early May.
The Sunrise Project will host a community potluck at the 1501 Learnard Ave. location on Feb 26.
