A women’s basketball coach at Haskell Indian Nations University was among the federal workers abruptly fired last week by the Trump Administration, but the coach is nevertheless sticking with his team as the playoffs near.
Rather than walking away, Adam Strom “has made the selfless decision to continue coaching his team for free,” according to a GoFundMe account. “He will not abandon them, even though he is now without pay.”
The GoFundMe organizer, calling Strom’s firing “a deeply unjust situation” for “a man who has spent over 25 years dedicating his life to basketball and the empowerment of youth across the country” is asking the public to donate money to support Strom.
“Your generosity will help cover his basic expenses–rent, food, and transportation–so he can continue coaching and supporting his players without the added stress of financial insecurity,” the account said. “Adam has always given everything to his players, and now it’s our turn to support him.”
Strom was on a list of nearly 40 people who were terminated Friday. On that list, he is named as a “sports specialist.”
