Theatre Lawrence will be putting on a show this weekend unlike any it has done before.

The theater will present a “musical in concert” — a semi-staged performance of Stephen Sondheim’s 1984 musical “Sunday in the Park with George,” which took its inspiration from the 19th century French painting “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” by Georges Seurat.

The show, to be presented for one weekend only, will feature an 11-piece orchestra on stage with the actors, also a Theatre Lawrence first. The production will feature the musical’s entire score and dialogue with minimal staging.
